Timeline

After more than five years, the NCAA concluded its investigation of Baylor University on August 11, 2021, with the announcement of findings by the Committee on Infractions.

Following are the major milestones in the intensive and collaborative NCAA investigation, which included a review of some 3.2 million pages of documents obtained by Pepper Hamilton, thousands of additional documents received as part of the NCAA investigation and more than 70 interviews.

Baylor proactively initiated contact with the NCAA and representatives travel to the national offices to inform the NCAA enforcement staff of potential NCAA violations arising from the Pepper Hamilton review.

May 26, 2016 The Baylor Board of Regents release the Findings of Fact, which outlined fundamental failures campus-wide in implementing Title IX and the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013.
May 26, 2016 The Baylor Board of Regents suspend Head Football Coach Art Briles with intent to terminate; sanction and place Vice President and Athletics Director Ian McCaw on probation; and remove Ken Starr as President effective May 31, 2016.
May 30, 2016

Vice President and Athletics Director Ian McCaw resigns from Baylor University.

August 24, 2016

Baylor representatives travel to the NCAA national offices to proactively provide additional information regarding potential NCAA violations it had reviewed from Pepper Hamilton.

December 12, 2016

Baylor receives a Notice of Inquiry from the NCAA enforcement staff.

September 6, 2018

Baylor receives a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA enforcement staff.

January 25, 2019

Baylor submits its response to the Notice of Allegations.

April 16, 2019

The NCAA enforcement staff submits its reply and statement of the case to a hearing panel of the NCAA Committee on Infractions and Baylor.

December 17, 2019

Infractions Referral Committee decides to not refer the case to the Independent Accountability Resolution Process.

February 4, 2020

NCAA Committee on Infractions finalizes hearing panel and sets hearing date for April 23-24, 2020.

March 17, 2020

NCAA postpones scheduled hearing due to COVID-19.

December 14-15, 2020

Baylor appears virtually before the NCAA Committee on Infractions.

August 11, 2021 NCAA Committee on Infractions releases its final report.
